I am a senior citizen in Austin, Texas. This morning I read a Bloomberg News story that says Google avoided $2 billion in worldwide income taxes in 2011 by shifting billions of dollars of revenue into a shell company in Bermuda.
This is happening while senior citizens are being threatened with Medicare cuts and reductions in our Social Security cost of living increases.
So, I just contacted my Congressman, Lloyd Doggett, with a plea for help. I am sitting here in my bathrobe, wondering whether Congress and the President recognize the choice they are facing in the Fiscal Cliff negotiations.
Simply put, would they rather protect senior citizens on fixed incomes, or would they rather keep the tax shelters for big corporations who have not been paying their share for all these years?
I urge you to contact my Congressman, Representative Lloyd Doggett, as well as the White House, and ask them which one of those choices they plan to make.
