A new way of life …. Tony Hadzi – Age 55

Not that I was sick or at any time excessively over weight (although I am not sure by what measurement I was gauging myself back then, but I had a tendency to be podgy and had many time gone on various diets to lose weight – never successfully though as each time I was able to shed pounds – it did not last long before I put everything back again. The realization of my problem came to me in early 2010 when during my annual physical, the doctor noted that although my cholesterol was in good shape and all other aspects of my physical makeup were “okay” – my blood sugar level had been steadily on the increase over the past 3 years and had now reached 103 (at 110 you are a diabetic). For me that was the catalyst that sent me to drawing board to seek a permanent direction change so that I could lose the right amount of weight and maintain a good balance in life especially now that I was nearing my mid-fifties. At the same time my life was under a lot of pressure having lost my job and having just divorced my wife of 30 years, I was really looking to reinvent and find the right balance of life and work and above all, to reinstate my happiness and zest to start everything all over again. I need to add that both my job situation and divorce, where not of my doing although I know that there are always two people involved in every situation – so suffice to say that neither events were not of my volunteering them.
After receiving the doctor’s advice to visit with a dietician, I promptly made the appointment and proceeded on a “low glycemic” diet and started to look at various programs and life style ideas to find something that I could stick to and make it my own – as I realized now that this has to be long term and has to be something that I can tailor to my way of life and things that I enjoy. Needless to say there are many choices, books, boot camps and so on – none of which I could identify with. Then I came across an internet site with what I thought at first was rather “tongue in cheek “ , but after a closer look I realized that this was a simple but broad spectrum concept of many smart ideas that could be tailored to any individual (athletic or not!) – and based on that I started to tailor my own path using the basic concepts of good nutrition and exercise mix that I could live with. That little book is called “the truth about six pack abs” by Mike Geary - and I have now been practicing the nutrition principles (which by the way, they also discuss the low glycemic options) and daily routine that I can work with. It has been almost two years now that I have been on this way of life – it’s easy and – it’s permanent for me - and I have never felt better in my life. At 55 years of age – I was amazed at the results after the first year, and I amaze myself each and every day I wake up and still don’t recognize the new person in the mirror! I chose to contribute this note only because I have now overcome the “diet” stage… I have learned perhaps late in life and not that I did not mean well before, that diet is not the way to go – it has to be a permanent way of life and only after staying consistent through this whole year and seen the light now for good, I can really say – this works!
