Pennsylvania has one of the highest incidences of breast cancer in the United States and one of highest death rates. Today, we learned from Alexander Nye; Legislative Assistant to Senator Steve Santarsiero from the 31st District in PA; the Mobile Mammography program affiliated with the Fox Chase Cancer Center is in jeopardy of ending. Pennsylvania as you can see from the CDC data, has one of the highest incidences of breast cancer in the United States as well as one of highest death rates. Pennsylvania has a challenge in front of them. They need to find a way to save their mobile mammography program. Senator Steve Santarsiero’s office has been asked by the program affiliated with Fox Chase Cancer Center to assist in finding the dollars to save this program. The demise of this would be quite unfortunate to the citizens of PA, especially those who need the program the most. The program is in need of $150,000 (which is the annual cost run the program, according to Alexander Nye, Legislative Assistant to Senator Santarsiero). Without this funding, the program will end. A program that is essential to ensure the health of the community. We reached out to Linda Hammell, Director of the Cancer Screening Program, but she was unavailable for comment at the time of this story.
