The video tells the story of how I got started turning my passion and and my knowledge into a multiple six figure business I'm running part-time from home.
Back 2008 I was on "unpaid maternity leave", after giving birth to my first and only son, Gavin. Strapped with medical bills from a high-risk and high-drama pregnancy I was out of work, and getting buried in debt. Then my husband got laid off too, as the small business he worked for, got toppled by the crumbling economy.
With my back up against the wall I turned my years of sales and presentation training, and my hobby of personal development (something I'd always done to grow as a person) and realized I could turn it into a business, and the results were pretty startling... though not exactly so startling at first.
The best part of this, is that LOTS of people can follow this model and create an income of their own, if they are really passionate about it.
Before this moment, I had spent years in sales, media sales for companies like CBS and NBC.
I had also been to LOTS of sales trainings over the years, that were very "old school" and high pressure sales, which didn't fit for me. And I met a lot of people, mostly women, who felt the same way.
Beyond work, I was always into personal development. It was a hobby of mine, to read, to attend events by leaders like Tony Robbins, it just brought me a lot of joy.
With an urgent need to create income as a great motivator, I took my hobby of personal development, and my knowledge in sales & presentation program and created a "program" more in line with what worked for me, and what was working in the market.
I created an outline for a full-day workshop on the topic, a "Presentation Power Program" and then created a FREE "introductory version" that just took about an hour to experience.
So here's how it worked:
I started sharing the one-hour introductory program all over town. I spoke to sales groups, and chambers of commerce, networking groups, and business associations. I called everyone and anyone, and offered to do a FREE one hour training.
I made sure everyone LOVED the training, by making sure it was super fun, interactive, and highly educational too.
At the end of an amazing hour of content I made an offer for people to come back to learn MORE in a full, one-day workshop.. and it was those "ticket sales" to the full day workshop that generated income.
At first, I earned a few thousand here or there, but even that was exciting at the time. Remember at the time, my husband and I were on the brink of total financial disaster. So at the time $3,000 felt like a wind fall! And other days, I walked out empty-handed. That was a lesson too. A lesson in what didn't work.
but I kept at it, honing the skills, and testing what worked, and what didn't, and soon word was spreading around that I was the GO-TO speaker in Portland.
Since then, I've gone to create a multiple six-figure business, that I still run three days a week from home. Now I show other business coaches, consultants, speakers, and authors exactly how you can turn your knowledge and expertise, into products, coaching programs or workshops, that are fun, that leverage your time, and generate an amazing multiple six figure income.
I never imagined that I would leave corporate America, and leave the security of a paycheck. Yet, I found my greatest joy and passion, has been being ABLE to create my own paycheck, doing what I love, and I get to show other people how to do that too.
There is such joy is sharing your passion with the world, getting to change people's lives in some way, and getting paid well to do, so you can continue on to serve more people in a bigger way.
I feel blessed that I get to do what I love, spend extra time with my son each week, and still contribute to my family's financial security.
