In February 2012, I travelled to Africa for 3 weeks to go camping. Being a fairly seasoned traveller, I did as much research as possible for entry requirements into Tanzania. One of the requirements was a Visa - and 2 options were given: 1) Send your passport to Ottaway, with a selft addressed envelope, forms filled out, and a courier number to return it to you in 2 weeks. Or 2) Get it at the Dar es Salaam airport upon arrival. Well option 1 seemed like a bit of a headache, so I opted to go with Option 2. So after 32 hours of flying (Calgary - London - Johannesburg - Dar es Salaam) I land and disembark into 50 degrees Celsius temperature with 100% humitidy, we were a full plane with almost 400+ passengers, but we weren't the only plane landing another plane of 400+ landed about 20 minutes before us. So close to 900 people, all "herded" into a holding pen to fill out our Visa forms, then hand them into the Tanzanian Immigration, with the money....and wait.... and wait. After almost 2 hours, people were fainting and feeling really sick, I was amongst the sick ones. People with Visas already granted (say like from Ottawa...) breezed through in about 3 minutes.... Lesson learned - Get my Visa ahead of time if posssible.
