Karachi, August 30: Pasban Pakistan here Friday expressed serious concern on new developments in Dr Shakil Afridi case and apprehended that on one hand ‘covert efforts’ are being made for the release of Shakil Afridi, on the other no visible activities are seen for the release and repatriation the daughter of the nation.
In a statement here Pasban President Altaf Shakoor said the alleged preparations for the release of Dr Afridi seem tantamount to a cruel joke to the Aafia family. He said now when the federal cabinet has approved the European Council Treaty and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has also okayed it, hidden hands have come into motion to get relief for Dr Shakil Afridi. He reminded that CIA contractor Raymond Davis was also facilitated in a similar manner through courts. He said it seems the history is repeating itself once again. He said the hype of Karachi operation seems a smokescreen to get released and repatriated Shakil Afridi, silently.
Altaf Shakoor said the government of Mian Nawaz Sharif should learn a lesson from the fate of Zardari regime. He is said that our politicians are silent on these serious issues, directly related to our national honor. The government should not further test the patience of the nation on Aafia issue.
He said now questions are also being raised why the European Council Treaty was preferred to the American Treaty which was comparatively less complex and may have directly benefitted Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who is in a US jail and not in a prison of any EU country.
The Pasban leader asked are only the national traitors entitled to be facilitated through the hidden government efforts and manipulated legal course to release the crooks like Raymond Davis and Shakil Afridi.
He asked why our religious leaders are silent on these issues and reluctant to come out of their ‘Hujiras’. The history of Islamic movements is full of the wars to defend the honor of daughters, but the Islamic movement in Pakistan is criminally silent on the matter of the honor of the daughter of the nation.
Pasban demanded of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to take urgent efforts for the release of Aafia, adding Aafia could be released within a couple of days if the prime minister takes really serious interest. It apprehended that to offset possible strong reaction of Pakistani masses on potential release of Afridi, a treaty was signed to console the Pakistanis that efforts are also under way for the release of Aafia Siddiqui.
