Last November I had the opportunity to spendsme time in dynamic Istanbul. In addition to visiting the many Mosques, textile museums, terrific restaurants, I had the privilege of attending the Sufi ceremony performed by the dancers we call the Whiling dervishes. After several ritual gersture they indiviually open up their folded arms with one pointed to the sky and the other to the earth as they begin to spin and rotate around this beautiful chamber. Lasting about 2 hours of chanting and accompanied by musicians, it was both calming and hypnotic.
