Pope receives Thai PM Yingluck at the Vatican

"The good relations between Thailand and the Holy See, as well as the mutual understanding and co-operation between the Church and the State, especially in the fields of education and social welfare" were on the main agenda during the meeting between Pope Francis and the Prime Minister of Thailand, Yingluck Shinawatra.

 

A Vatican statement described the audience as "friendly" as well as the meeting between Yingluck with Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone SDB who was accompanied by Msgr. Dominique Mamberti, Secretary for Relations with States.

 

Yingluck informed the Pope of the importance of intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, and extended an invitation for him to visit Thailand.

 

Talks also focused on " various matters of current international interest and the political situation in Asia, focusing in particular on the importance of intercultural and inter-religious dialogue for the promotion of human rights, peace and justice throughout the region".
