Nearly a decade into doing community works, service to the nation and humanitarian missions mostly in California and selected Asian countries, Ms. Maria Amor could not look more at home when she is with her favorite subjects and constituents, the poor, the homeless, the underserved and the needy.
Rounding out her full-packed week-long schedule in Indonesia, she made it a point to visit Bantar Gebang, Bekasi, where her humanitarian skills and natural love of children was visibly in full display. It is where more than 10 million tons of trash is dumped on a landfill area owned by the city government of Bantar Gebang, Bekasi, West Java. 6,000 tons of new waste is deposited to the landfill each day. Bekasi Landfill was established in Bantar Gebang West Java since 1988, where unfortunately the number of scavengers in the area surrounding the landfill Bantar Gebang numbers to about 8,000 people including children.
Photographed with the homeless people working or residing near the landfill, Ms. Amor appears both relaxed and invigorated, embracing the undefined (and hardly definable) roles of a president and founder of a non-profit organization, a diplomat, an artist, a business entrepreneur, a community worker, a public servant and a humanitarian. But it’s the last one that makes her many faceted and talented personality shines the brightest of all. Put her in an environment with the children and women who are in need, whether in the United States or some remotest areas – and she glows, she delivers. What a woman of courage, perseverance, and commitment that is what Ms. Maria Amor is.
On this humanitarian mission in the landfill community of Bantar Gebang, Ms. Amor sincerely shared, “We at the We Care for Humanity are humbled by this another experience, which is to be with the landfill community of Bantar Gebang in Indonesia. For as long as we can, we will continue doing this visit to inspire the people here and to give them hope and aspirations in life. I know deep within me, we can bring smiles and joys to children and families here in our own little ways.
In this visit, Ms. Amor was accompanied by the group headed by Tommy Karwur, the main person handling the official itinerary of Ms. Amor in Indonesia. Incidentally, Ms. Maria Amor was recently conferred Doctor of Divinity by STT Hagiasmos headed by Pst Dr. Johan Pasaribu. Two months ago, Ms. Amor was appointed as Head Representative in
California, USA of The World Peace Committee.
