Every leader and political party of Pakistan claims that they love Pakistan. They want to bring a positive change in the often referred as an very corrupt system of Pakistan and this virus of corruption can be traced in all departments especially government or semi government run, and then comes the most interesting part, the ages old trick in the book and i.e. the blame game (and that circus can be enjoyed and witnessed on almost all private television channels) political or current affairs talk shows been telecasted in Pakistan.
Now let’s talk about the electoral process of Pakistan. Are fair and free elections (ever) possible in Pakistan? – And that too with this current system and state of affairs in place, please I beg you to think again and again even before questioning. As the simple answer is “NO” as the total system of today’s Pakistan has to no credibility to being with, where might not only is right but often enjoys full unquestioned rights as well. Recently watching an Pakistani talk show (telecasted by a private news channel) after the twin Christian church bombings, I learned another dirty secret which perhaps no politician would dare narrate. That on Election Day the members of Muslim majority in Pakistan often object towards minorities (Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Parsi and many more) even standing in the same queue to cast their votes and often the law enforcing departments present at the scene cater to their demands (and the minority community members are told to form another line) and if at all they object they are mistreated and told to leave. Now this is the fair and just system enforced in today’s Pakistan (and no one has ever dared to even raise an eyebrow, not even the so called fair media).
People of Pakistan have seen (almost) all political parties and their leaders over the years and the level of corruption they all have introduced is no secret either.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (movement for justice) party led by former cricketer turned politician Mr Imran Khan is the most new and fresh political party formed some fifteen years ago and got noticed as a national party about eight years or so. This party claims that they are only the ones that can bring real change they sure created some serious waves and have managed to mobilised the youth and got noticed by an average voter in 2013 general elections. As a result they were able to form provincial government in one of the most troubled parts of the country that is the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa formerly known as NWFP (north western frontier province).
Since his party came to power there have been high level jail breaks, Pakistan Army has lost its high ranking officials from planted bomb blasts by alleged terrorists belonging to a group mostly referred to as Al Qaida in the very same province.
But still Imran Khan and his PTI are advocating that the federal government should have a dialogue with these outlaws who seem have no respect for fellow human beings at all. At times one wonders what agenda politicians of Pakistan are working on. Are they confused or in a state of denial that Pakistan is in a state of war please wake up to reality as the only solution analyzed from a global point of view is full scale military operation to smoke out and get rid of these inhuman elements. I interviewed Mr Khan on his last visit to Canada in 2012 and his stance was that we (Pakistani’s) have been dragged into United States war (against terrisiom) and are just paying the price for that and till date he and his party maintain the same stance.
I strongly disagree as this war is now within the borders of Pakistan as day to day people suffer. It’s time to answer these butchers (terrorist) with force, and in a meaningful and decisive manner. Whatever the outcome maybe, our prayers, sentiments are and will remain with the suffering people of Pakistan and the very (often) discriminated minorities.
