People who live in the Chicagoland area need to make sure they have life insurance. A quick glance at the headlines in the violence-ridden city shows not only murders, but also a string of deaths caused by accidents involving the transit system. Because of the high rate of accidental deaths and murders in the area, no one is guaranteed to make it through any day – even if you are just going about your normal life.

Freight Train Death

An 83-year man was killed by a freight train in Bloom Township, just outside of Chicago. The man bypassed a guardrail and was struck by the train yesterday morning. This is proof positive that senior life insurance is necessary to help cover the final expenses of people who pass away unexpectedly from tragic events such as this one. Since the man passed the working guardrail, there is some speculation that this might be a suicide, so a policy that covers suicide is likely going to be the only way his family gets help.

Metra Train Deaths

The Metra train system has been involved in two accidents that resulted in deaths yesterday. One pedestrian was struck by a train between Paletine and Iverness. The other was a teacher who was struck by a train in Tinley Park. These two deaths bring up the importance of life insurance for all adults. In cases like this, a policy with an accidental death clause is usually the best option since it offers a little more coverage to help the family.

Shooting Deaths

Shooting deaths occur in Chicagoland daily. Some of the most recent shootings that resulted in death were that of a UPS worker who was shot during an apparent robbery. This shooting was done by a teen who was aided by another teen. Another shooting death was that of a professional boxer, which shows that even people who could likely defend themselves may still fall victim to a shooting. His shooters have yet to be identified. A woman was shot while at a gas station on South Stony Island Avenue. The motive for this shooting and the potential suspects haven't been determined. A 17-year-old boy was shot to death in Little Village. He was found Thursday evening and succumbed to his injuries Friday afternoon at a hospital.

These four shooting deaths are just a small sampling of the deadly daily occurrences in Chicagoland. Together, these incidents are proof that anyone, even children, should have a life insurance policy. While children don't have to pay for bills, their final expenses will usually include a funeral and burial or a funeral and cremation. These expenses can be very costly, and with a government assistance limit of $255, the families of the slain have a significant cost to cover just to lay their loved ones to rest.

Finding Life Insurance

If you are unsure of what type of life insurance to purchase, the Illinois Department of Insurance has ample information on its website about various types of insurance.
