INTERIOR and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II on Sunday expressed optimism that the Philippines will rise up from the wrath of super typhoon “Yolanda” as the government is working closely with the private sector.
Citing their combined efforts, Roxas said that slowly the country will be back on its feet after passing through a harrowing experience.
Roxas, who is co-chairman of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), assured affected families that the government and volunteer workers, particularly those from the private sector, are working double overtime to ensure the delivery of relief goods to the victims of super typhoon “Yolanda” in Western Visayas.
According to Roxas, Secretary Dinky Soliman of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) had approved the release of P736 million for the purchase of additional relief goods for typhoon-devastated areas in Capiz, Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, Negros Occidental and Guimaras.
He said the DILG and DSWD have set up a centralized operation center at the Roxas City Airport for systematic deployment of relief goods in Capiz province with the help of the Philippine Air Force, Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police.
The stock of relief goods was further boosted with the arrival at the Culasi Port in Capiz of truckloads of relief items, which were sent by government officials and private donors.
