CNN aired video footage of Lady Gaga's press conference recently where she discussed her addiction to pot. She was quoted by CNN reporters, but CNN did not actually allow Lada Gaga to speak for herself. CNN has been known to allow many, many other important figureheads, statistically greater numbers of men and white people, have airtime on CNN speaking for themselves, at their own press conferences. However, they chose to simply quote Lady Gaga, and they did not air any audio of her conference. The story ran on Erin Burnett's "Out Front" on Monday, November 18th, 2013 at 10:00pm. Dr. Drew was there to speak for Lada Gaga too. However, Lada Gaga did have some things to say for herself, as she was shown saying it in the video feed. However, her voice was strangely missing from the broadcast.
I can't give my opinion on "Out Front," but I think it's fair to say that Erin Burnett is an rock star reporter with an incredible, expansive reporting strategy that covers many, many important issues in one hour, not just one issue like many other broadcasts that CNN transmits. Again, statistically speaking, CNN transmits far more footage of white men speaking for themselves at their own press conferences, and it certainly is questionable that CNN did not actually air any audio footage of Lada Gaga speaking for herself.
