On the evening of September 13, 2013, Anmol Sarna, US Citizen and Hicksville, Long Island native, attended a party at his friend, Pranil Shah’s, apartment in New Delhi, at the party, the attendees were believed to be intoxicated with LSD. There were a total of 5 boys attending this small gathering, Anmol Sarna, Shivang Ghambhir, Madhav Bhandari, Rithum Gilotra, and Pranil Shah. During the entire night Pranil Shah’s father, KD Shah was also in the house! Between 10:30PM and 12 AM, Anmol was reported to be seen shirtless and barefoot, running and screaming from the apartment while cursing at his friends, Shivang and Madhav, for some unknown reason. His friends did not follow to ensure his safety, but instead ran away from the scene. Over one hour later, Anmol was taken to a local hospital by police responders where he succumbed to his injuries. Indian Police are concluding his death was caused by severe brain hemorrhaging due to over 900ml of blood loss caused by multiple instances of blunt force trauma to the head caused by an unidentified weapon.
Since Anmol’s death, Indian police have failed to provide an unassailable sequence of events that would lead to Anmol’s grave bodily injury and subsequent death. They have arrested two apartment security guards on charges that they beat Anmol to death on the street. However, the police’s version of events does not come close to explaining how or why Anmol received such severe injuries. Postmortem reports reveal multiple head injuries and deep lacerations. The reports also reveal that Anmol’s genitalia had compressed bruising. According to the First Information Report filed by initial officers on the scene, officers found a broken plate in the dustbin, blood stains in the apartment, and a broken TV. The crime scene reveals splatters and handprints of blood on cars, gates, and the stairwell leading to the apartment. Yet, police have not addressed any of this evidence and are instead insisting that Anmol was not hurt until he left the apartment. There is no evidence that has been released to support this claim. Given the presence of blood in the apartment and near the stairs, which has been photographically documented, it can be concluded that someone was hurt in the apartment and since no one else present in the apartment suffered such severe injuries we can conclude it was indeed Anmol who was injured. Also, several witnesses have said that Anmol was able to walk into the PCR van on his own, so what happened in the PCR van that caused his health to deteriorate so fast is still a mystery. At around 12:10AM, Shivang’s parent, Sanjeev and Monika Ghambhir, came to pick three of the boys up. Sanjeev and Monika Ghambhir drove right up to the gate of the complex but not one of them left the car to check if Anmol was ok now or not. Anmol’s “friends” left him outside in the middle of the night without telling the security guards that he was a friend of theirs, Anmol was abandoned. Anmol’s parents were only informed of this event 3 HOURS after everything occurred, and only mentioned that Anmol was taken to the hospital and forgot to mention the grave detail that he had been bleeding profusely.
The family has noted that Shivang Ghambhir’s father, Sanjeev Ghambhir is a builder who has political contacts, and there is speculation that he may have contacted someone within the 3 hour gap, of the initial occurrence to when Anmol’s family was notified, to remove crucial evidence. It is believed that all the arrangements to do so were done while Anmol’s family was grieving over the loss of their beloved child because, although Anmol’s “friends” and their parents knew what had happened not one person from that group came to the hospital during that time.
It has been noted that officers directly in charge of this case, DCP Karuna Karan and Bijinder Singh, didn’t not put forth the much need effort when collected and analyzing evidence.
The four individuals who were with Anmol the night he was murdered have been set free on interim bail as of 10/7/2013, even though there is no evidence to prove their innocence.
The case has just recently been moved from local authorities to Indian Police Head Quarters Crime Branch, and it has the potential to become an international case.
Police Head Quarters Crime Branch Officers are currently investigating the crime and looking into evidence which seems to have been tampered with.
Due to lack of evidence to support the conclusion reached by the local Police, and the obvious tampering of evidence that is currently being investigated, the family is completely unsatisfied with the initial conclusion. Anmol was a US citizen and the details and crucial evidence which can tell how he died have been tampered with. The only authorities who had the evidence before the Police Head Quarters were the local police authorities. This is a matter of CORRUPTION on the part of the local authorities who first responded to the scene, which leads to the belief that they are trying to save the real person responsible for Anmol’s death. The family has ample evidence to assume that the local police are manipulating or attempting to cover up crucial evidence that will lead to the true perpetrator of this heinous crime. He was an American and was killed. We must bring justice in his name.
The family has currently sought the help of Congressman Steve Israel, and Peter King who have agreed to send a letter, on their behalf, to the Indian Ambassador. So far the U.S Embassy has not provided any assistance. A website has been constructed in honor of Anmol Sarna. His Family has started an online petition which can be accessed through the site, along with more in depth detail of the case and the evidence so far. (Tinyurl.com/justiceforanmol).
