Today I finally found the time to write about something that genuinely infuriated me during the national championship game between Notre Dame and Alabama in Miami.
It had nothing concerning the game, the outcome or anything to do with the event itself whatsoever.
It had to do with the behavior of the Miami Police Department towards a VIP guest who was an Afghan Veteran and amputee.
I can’t name names because the parties involved don’t want their names on this story, but I need to tell it.
An Afghan Veteran who has lost both his legs was personally given a VIP guest pass to the championship game from the President of the University of Notre Dame. He was flown out to Miami the night of the game and pick up by veteran representatives of the world’s largest charity foundation.
When they arrived at the outer parking lot they were met by 4 police officers from the Miami Police Department. The driver of the U.S. war veteran (charity rep) told the officers who he was and what he was there for.
Two officers from the Miami Police Department told him they didn’t care who he was and to get the hell out of there. Mind you, these police officers are acting as rent-a-cops for the stadium and event.
After some haggling, another officer came up and let them through. Once near the stadium they ran into another set of officers that decided they would up the insults.
The charity driver told one of the officers that he had a VIP guest who just came into town and was sent there by the President of Notre Dame and the charity. Further, that he was not only a VIP, but an honored guest who was also an amputee and veteran of the Afghanistan conflict.
The Miami Police Department officer told the charity person that he didn’t care who the f*** the guy was, that everyone was a VIP guest, and that he could go f*** himself. He continued to say that he too was an Afghan veteran (not verified and unlikely) and that he didn’t care who the guest was. Also that he “didn’t care if the jerk was injured” and that he didn’t share the charity’s point of view of helping the veteran and giving him special consideration to come to the game.
The charity driver decided not to get into a conflict with this insane, ignorant and wickedly mean spirited Miami Police Department officer and took another route. He finally ran into the maintenance people who collect the trash around the stadium. They were the people that eventually let him and the honored veteran into the game.
This was one of the most outrageous things I had ever had the displeasure to know about concerning the honored veterans of our country. It was bordering on purely evil.
The fact that it was members of the Miami Police Department I suppose shouldn’t surprise me since their record speaks for itself when it comes to corruption, rudeness, falsifying statements and everything down those lines that they are famous for nationally.
But now they’ve crossed over to doing these things to our veterans. Our cherished veterans. Our wounded veterans.
Now they’ve crossed a line I personally am not willing to tolerate. Write your Senators. Write your House of Representative members. Write to the Florida legislature. Write to those who control the contracts with the officers at the Miami stadium. Write to anyone that can remove these horrible police officers from ever working there again. And, hopefully never working for the Miami Police Department again.
That’s what I am furious about today. Everyone else in this nation should be furious too. The Miami Police Department officers have no business even being in those uniforms, much less treating our vets in such a manner.
