In the town of Verona, New York a woman states that she has been neglected, ignored, and denied her rights as a United States citizen. On a Sunday morning in August of 2012 Bridget LaClaire opened her door to see a Deputy and Dog control Officer with an appearance ticket and the taking of her two dogs, Sapphire and Sunday. In what is believed to be self incriminating, LaClaire was shocked and bewildered when she told the officer that they were her dogs. LaClaire was never reminded or read her rights which broke the ninth amendment as well and she was never presented with a warrant of any kind therefore her private property was searched and seized illegally breaking the fourth amendment. Early reports were made about the case. None of the reports stated or asked for her side of the story, throwing the thought of ‘innocent until proven guilty’ out the door when it came to public opinion. LaClaire was given many different court dates and appearances but all were adjourned. On January 8th 2013 Judge Randall D. Smith sentenced Bridget LaClaire to ten consecutive weekends spent in jail. LaClaire states the public defender said the judge didn’t want to here her side of the story that his reputation was on the line and that she was going to jail no ifs, ands, or buts about itAccording to prosecutors the white American bull pit mix weighed 19 pounds when they ‘rescued’ him ,had a wound on his neck with maggots in it, and the husky lab mix also found on the property was malnourished and small for her breed. The dogs were also tied outside to a tree, prosecutors stating that there was no food and water for the animals. “I was getting ready to go to church as my kids were filling their food and water bowls. We had just put them outside in the shade when this whole mess happened I was completely dumbfounded” LaClaire said LaClaire also states that she is guilty of not having a license on the dogs, but that three days earlier that the dog control officer had come to the house with a complaint that the pit-bull was getting lose and suggested a choke collar,
The cut had happened when he got lose she says guessing it was a stray. She says the dogs were fed and walked and played with everyday, that they were never outside in bad weather and that she knew she could not keep them like this and that it wasn’t fair to the animals but had called Rome humane society a few weeks before the incident in which they told her there was a two month waiting period. “I should’ve taken him to the vet but just couldn’t afford it just like I should’ve opened my mouth a lot sooner but was scared” clearly this case isn’t over yet and justice is in the mind’s perspective.
. It has not only come to my attention how corrupt people can be but that children are dying more and more each day and this case about a dog is the top news on my local news station? I’m not saying I don’t care about animals but that there is good in bad in every place and everyone; it’s just a matter of perspective. So what do you think, do you think this woman should go to jail or not?.
