We have a situation in Michigan where AT&T has successfully lobbied the legislature to adopt an unnecessary and dangerous proposal – allowing convicted felons to work in the Security Alarm Industry.
The Security Alarm Industry is provided a distinction much like law enforcement in that citizens place their personal safety and trust in our hands. They share intimate and confidential information with us and then trust us to watch over them to make their lives safer – this is simply no place for a convicted felons.
This issue is being sent to Governor Rick Snyder’s desk for his signature. (We do not know his intent at this point. We do know that the regulating body in his state government opposes these new bills.) in
I have attached more detail for your review as attachments to this email. (I have sent in both PDF and Word versions.)
There are two recent news articles that are relevant to this topic. The first is a national security alarm company that employed hundreds of convicted felons and was fined $ 1,000,000.00 by the State of Illinois for violating its state laws. The second is a Comcast employee that stole $ 11,000 worth of jewelry from a home. (Please note that Comcast holds a Security Alarm Dealer license in Michigan and this was one of their residential Cable Installers, not a security technician. I use this as an example of what could happen if the proper standards are not employed here in Michigan.)
Time is of the essence and any light you can shine on this over-shadowed issue could prove to be critical in the days to come. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance to you and thank you for taking the time to read this email.
