Defenseless Meat for the Criminal Grinder

I heard Piers Morgan say that he thought a 6 year old should be able to go to school without being afraid of being killed and I could not agree more. I have a lot of memories of being six and I remember drills in which we would hide under our school desk presumably to protect us from an atomic blast.

We were led to believe that at a moments notice we could all be dead, they did neglect to tell us that a nuclear blast would atomize us and that the desk really couldn't do anything at all to protect us. Generally the only time I was worried about being nuked and dying was when we had the drills and even then it was a bit abstract.

My bigger concern at the time was the three 6th graders that would knock me down, steal my lunchbox and smash the thermos against the side of the school wall. School was not a safe place even then.

We did not have rampant school shootings and massacres even though we were the best armed free people in the world, we had plenty of semi automatics too, and many military and other men had a military rifle. The guns didn't change that much, but what changed is our society.

Life is cheap, and fame comes quick to those who are addicted to the idea of creating a media explosion of fame and notoriety by committing a heinous act. When I was a kid you might want to be famous by working hard to the best at music like John Lennon or the best at baseball like Al Kaline.

Somewhere along the line some people started to believe that they could be famous by killing John Lennon instead of writing music like John Lennon. The new journalism (URINALISM) latched on to these sociopaths and gave them the fame and notoriety they wanted.

Look at their pictures, these sociopaths are proud of what they have done and the media rewarded them and gave the unsaid promise to the next psychopath in line "fame is but a trigger pull away"

Now some how though Mr. Morgan believes that in a Country where a child cannot be safe in the womb that the government can insure protection in the classroom or anywhere else for that matter.

We are beings that have free will, we can make decisions for ourselves, some of us make good ones, some make bad but we are free to make them. Now if we make a bad decision and have to suffer the consequence if that consequence is painful enough we will probably stop doing it. One of the problems we have is that the consequences have been taken away. It is a real crap shoot as to what if anything will happen.

A criminal can be sentenced to 2-10 years but can be released from prison after 18 months or less. Where is the deterrent? Where is the consequence? The lack of consistent consequences for bad behavior is the norm. Personal Responsibility is an abstract concept for many. A society without boundaries and without personal responsibility is the definition of anarchy. We cannot have personal freedom without personal responsibility.

We are creating sociopaths in this society by the busload and then what? we act surprised when they behave like a sociopath? You want to keep kids (and other people) safe? Then keep violent offenders in prison, keep pedophiles, killers and rapists in prison for their full sentence. Put the potheads in prison on a tether, make room and keep the violent offenders rapists and child molesters locked away for the full sentence.

1) Legislation and enforcement of existing laws that were designed to address and punish criminal behavior would be supported by gun rights groups.

2) Legislation and enforcement of existing laws to punish those using a weapon in the commission of a crime would be supported by gun rights groups.

Our mental institutions were emptied out because it was decided that being insane is not a crime, that a person could not be held in an institution simply for being insane or mentally ill. We put them in community programs, moved them back home. Not such a bad idea at first glance but we expected that a mentally ill person who is not capable of caring for themselves to make a rational decision to take their medication, stay in a safe community home go to treatment programs and be responsible for themselves.

Then when that person goes off their meds, leaves the community home, and refuses to take part in treatment we act surprised when they snap and commit a heinous act. How does that make sense?

3) Fixing our broken mental health system would be supported by gun rights groups.

In the current environment the Democrats have latched on to the latest heinous crime and believe they have the political capital to do what they have always wanted too do, and that is gut or repeal the Second Amendment.

Can anyone ever question or doubt that is where the party wants to go on this issue? There are things that gun owners and pro second amendment groups would embrace whole heartedly but liberals would ignore the obvious, let emotion, fear, and hatred guide them in their venomous attacks against gun owners.

4) A National Mental Health Database would be supported by gun owners.

You won't find support in the liberal camp for that though, because it might prejudice people against the mentally ill, or it might violate their rights somehow of they were included in such a database. There is no good reason that a person adjuducated to be a danger to themselves or others is not included in the National Database for background checks.

5) Increasing the presence of real honest to goodness school counselors would be supported by gun owners.

I can tell you from working in the schools for many years, if there is one thing that teachers can identify is kids who are having trouble emotionally, socially and academically.

I can also tell you that little is done and there are few resources to help teacher and parents deal with those problems. Gun Control is not going to solve those problems.

More Gun Control will not make you safer, will not protect your children will not reduce the number of sociopaths we create or stop the next psychopath from committing a heinous crime.

The cry that we need more gun control to be safe is a sham, it is a red herring it is a lie that the sheep are being told by the wolf. Believe what you want but the law abiding gun owner, the concealed weapon holder, you friend, your neighbor, your family member along with local law enforcement, National Guard, and our military families are all part of the wall of protection between us and the criminals, predators, sociopaths and psychopaths.

If those politicians those enemies of freedom who have forgotten to uphold their oath to uphold the Constitution succeed in gutting the second amendment and removing firearms from the law abiding in this Country we will all be less safe, we will all be nothing more than defenseless meat for the criminal grinder.
