On the night of January 13th at approximately 8:15 p.m. at Kenco-Lavista Apartments, I was shook from the night's silence by the blaring sirens of Dekalb County's fire trucks approaching my apartment complex. The shock and surprise of the blaring vibrating sirens bombastic acoustics and blaring imposing lights bombarding there way into my small one bedroom caused me to leap from my bed to the window. Before my eyes where at least three fire trucks followed by three more that arrived in two minute intervals between one another. My curiosity had gotten the best of me and I ran to the balcony to observe. I did not see any flames coming from the building across from me, however, the trucks kept coming and so did the firefighters. What was going on? By this time all the surrounding the buildings' residents also stood outside glaring into this choas as if watching a movie screen.
After about thirty minutes the apartment complex was a sea of red blaring lights and fire trucks. I saw a elderly woman stretched out on a gurney being taken from the building as firefighters continued to make their way to the building. A crowd of people stood gawking from every which direction spectating with open eyes and dumb founded looks. A window to the apartment building had been broken out the side. By this time the majority of the trucks left the scene except for two. As quickly as they had appeared, the scene was cleared out. I am still clueless what all happened at the apartment. I will continue to do some investigating and will give more details as I find out.
