Iran rejects British company's donation for Children in Ahwaz
Georgina Melvin, spokesperson for the Regal Sofas and Interiors, a British registered company that specializes in manufacturing high-end sofa's and classic furniture, has informed us that the company had recently donated six types of sofa suites to Ahwazi children in Iran. However the Iranian customs administration rejected the donation and prevented it from entering the region.
We contacted the Iranian customs administration and their response was '' we are not allowing the donation under the laws and regulations of Islamic republic of Iran, especially based on article 40 of the customs act, import and export of some goods are generally forbidden."
It’s the first time that Iran stops a donation from reaching children living under poverty. Iran will gladly send fighters and export weapons into Syria to bolster their allies, yet reject a donation to aid those in need. The Company was not smuggling weapons like Iran did into Yemen but was sending charities to cover what the regime can't. "Such great work should be supported and not treated like an attempt to try and invade the country", said Maryam Alkabi an Ahwazi human rights activists.
An official from the Ahwazi local council for the eradication of illiteracy estimates that there are 230,000 illiterate people in the region. Although Ahwazi people suffer from high levels of illiteracy both in Farsi and in their native Arabic, the regime is building 3,000 schools in Iraq as part of its campaign to win political leverage over its neighbour.
