This discussion of gun laws is a bit unnerving to me.
All I hear from both sides is arrogance and paranoia.
Ohhh...the scary conservatives will end up killing us because of their guns.
Ohhh...the scary liberals will end up getting us killed when they take away our guns.
But I can't help but see the irony in the discussions when it deals with our "rights" in respect to another living person.
Do we have the right to kill another human being?
To many of those who tend liberal, they would say yes if it was in respect to a fetus. It seems many believe the fetus isn't yet a "person" even though it is a living organism.
To many of those who tend conservative, they would say yes if it was against an intruder in their home. Regardless if the person was just trying to steal a loaf a bread to feed their family.
In both cases these folks have made a decision, and can justify it in their eyes, that another's life is worth ending.
Who is right...who is wrong?
And who decides who's life is worth saving?
No, guns have never been the problem.
There was a time, not to long ago, that most citizens owned guns, but with a healthy respect for each other. Guns were more of a tool and less a weapon.
If your neighbor back then had a gun, you wouldn't be afraid of him.
But in this time of supposed civility, if your neighbor had a gun, many would likely be afraid of that person.
The real problem as far as I can tell is the loss of respect for life in general.
Both sides of this kill with little regret, yet scream for their "rights" to do just that.
