Last week I attended a Chamber of Commerce regional mixer where I happened to win a raffle with the prize being a President' Tour of the SS Victory Lane with lunch in the Officer's Mess. My girlfriend and I went there yesterday and met with Anthony Broude, the current President of the U.S. Merchant Marine Veterans of World War II.
Mr. Broude gave us an extensive tour of the Liberty ship which was initially launched in 1945 and served tours of duty in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. In 1991 the S.S. Lane Victory was designated a National Historic Landmark.
For history and maritime history buffs, they have self-guided tours which are only $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for children. It really is fun for the entire family. They are open every day except Thursdays and they have three cruises a year. You can find out more details at the S.S. Lane Victory website located at http://www.lanevictory.org/
